To answer this question, it’s helpful if you understand that three pieces make up the dental implant. Two pieces are hidden inside your jaw, and the only portion that is visible is the dental crown that we place when the process is finished.
What we refer to as the implant is a small titanium post that is surgically placed in your jaw. The post is the foundation for the rest of the dental implant because as the bone and tissue around the implant heal, it becomes fully integrated with your jaw.
Once the site of the implant has healed over a period of several months, Dr. Pruce will attach a small piece called an abutment. This is a connector piece that attaches to the dental crown, the only part of the implant unit that is visible. Once the crown is placed, it will blend in perfectly with surrounding teeth, and no one will be able to tell the difference between it and your natural teeth.
Dental implants are an excellent option for replacing missing teeth, but we can’t say if you’re a good candidate until we do a complete exam. If you’re interested in dental implants in Washington, PA, please call Pruce Dental to schedule a consultation.
