Looking for a Solution for Missing Teeth? Dental Implants May be the Answer!

Dental implants are becoming increasingly popular, and you may hear about them and what they can do. How do they work? How long does it take?

The Initial Exam

First, we’ll refer you to an oral surgeon who will arrange a consultation. They will perform a thorough examination of your teeth, take 3-D images, and discuss your personal oral health concerns. The specifics to consider are:

  • How many teeth are missing? One? Several? Dental implants can work in either case. If all your teeth are missing, then we may consider a different option, such as dentures or implant-supported dentures.
  • Are your teeth healthy? If your remaining teeth are healthy, then you may be a good candidate for dental implants. The key is that you need enough healthy bone to hold your new implant in place.
  • What type of dental implant is best for you? During your exam, the implant specialist will decide if this is the best method for you.

What Happens Next?

Your initial exam will help both you and your oral surgeon gather the information to decide if a dental implant procedure is right for you. The next step is to schedule an appointment for the
implant procedure.

After the surgeon places the implant in your jaw, you will have to wait several months for it to heal and integrate with surrounding bone and tissue. It takes a little patience, but those who have gone through the process will tell you that it’s well worth the wait!

Once the implant heals, your dentist will arrange an appointment for you to come in for the final step of placing a restoration like a crown, bridge or denture attached to the implant.
