Preventive Dentistry in McMurray, PA
The foundation for your family's excellent oral health is preventive care. It’s easier to include routine dental care in your schedule now, rather than run the risk of developing more costly and complicated problems later.
The Importance of Preventive Care
At Pruce Dental, we are committed to helping you understand the benefits of healthy teeth and gums. Dr. Robert Pruce is highly skilled at restoring damaged smiles, but we would much rather see you for basic preventive services than complex restorative treatment.
Protecting the overall health of your mouth also helps protect your general health. Studies by many health organizations have established that a direct link exists between the health of your mouth and your overall health. Chronic gum disease and poor oral health have been found to contribute to serious issues like heart disease, diabetes, respiratory disease, and even pregnancy complications.
Your First Visit
We believe that we can provide you with the most appropriate care by developing a long-term trusting relationship. The first step is to schedule an appointment for a face-to-face meeting with Dr. Pruce to talk about your concerns. He’ll start by asking some basic questions to learn about you and how you would like us to help.
- What are your expectations for your dental treatment?
- Do you have problems to address, or are you mainly interested in keeping your oral health on track?
- What have been your past experiences with dental care?
- Do you feel nervous or apprehensive about dental care?
Next, Dr. Pruce will do a visual exam, noting any dental work and potential problem areas, including signs of teeth grinding and TMJ. We will take photos along with a series of x-rays to see what’s going on inside your teeth and establish a baseline for future treatment.
Since your overall health is important to us, every exam and cleaning includes an oral cancer screening. According to the Oral Cancer Foundation, oral cancer is highly treatable, with a 90% survival rate if caught in its early stages.
Personalized Treatment Plans
One of the most important preventive services we offer is professional dental cleanings. During your cleaning, Dr. Pruce will carefully check your gums for signs of periodontal disease and make recommendations based on his findings. If gum disease is not present, a basic cleaning may be all that’s needed. Otherwise, he will work with you to establish a treatment plan to restore gum health.
Dr. Pruce will also talk to you about other preventive treatment options like fluoride applications and dental sealants to make sure healthy teeth stay that way.
Your Partner in Dental Care
No matter what condition your teeth are in now, we’re ready to help you on your way to a healthier, more beautiful smile. If you need to catch up with your dental care, we won’t judge you or lecture you about the current state of your oral health. Our only concern is to help you move forward from this point to improve your overall health and wellness.
After your exam is complete, we’ll review the results with you and work together to develop a treatment plan customized for your needs. You will know exactly what to expect during every phase of treatment.
We would love to help you achieve a healthy, attractive smile that lasts a lifetime. Please contact our McMurray dental office at (724) 942-1400 and we’ll be happy to arrange an appointment for your first visit.
